Cameo Rangers and Jason David Frank Video

My review of Prince Takes Knight will be up this week.

Just a few weeks ago, we got confirmed by FuryDiamond of RangerCrew that there would be 10 Returning Rangers for the second half of MegaForce for May 25th and May 26th. This comes after the invitation fiasco that happened. These 10 Rangers are:

• Jason David Frank: Tommy Oliver (Green Mighty Morphin Ranger, White Mighty Morphin Ranger, Red Zeo Ranger, 1st Red Turbo Ranger and Black Dino Thunder Ranger)
• Selwyn Ward: T.J. Johnson (2nd Red Turbo Ranger and Blue In Space Ranger)
• Melody Perkins: Karone (Astronema: Queen Of Evil and 2nd Pink Lost Galaxy Ranger)
• Danny Slavin: Leo Corbett (Red Lost Galaxy Ranger)
• Reggie Rolle: Damon Henderson (Green Lost Galaxy Ranger)
• Sean CW Johnson: Carter Grayson (Red Lightspeed Rescue Ranger)
• Alison MacInnis: Dana Mitchell (Pink Lightspeed Rescue Ranger)
• Jason Faunt: Wes Collins (Red Time Force Ranger)
• Hector David Jr: Mike (Green Samurai Ranger)
• Brittney Anne Pirtle: Emily (Yellow Samurai Ranger)

According to Fury Diamond's source, it said that most of them will be used in the final scene for MegaForce and the others will be in something else, but I have a feeling from the following photos that there's more to it that the source isn't telling us. :)

This also reveals that Patricia Ja Lee who played Cassie Chan. (2nd Pink Turbo Ranger and Pink In Space Ranger) has also returned.

"Past Rangers Cameos" Fiasco

There has been commotion going on in the PR fandom in the past few days. It's about cameos in the second half of MegaForce (which is being pitifully titled "Super" MegaForce. I hate it as much as you may do.) which will be using elements from Gokaiger as well as Goseiger with the Goaki suits being used as "power-ups". One of the elements from Gokaiger that the are also utilizing is appearances of former actors. This is a good thing.......................and a bad thing. In the past few days, a few actors declined or was uninvited to appear. Here they are now:

Pictured up above is Rhett Fisher. He played Ryan Mitchell, the Titanium Ranger in Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue. He is best known for portraying the very first American only Power Ranger since the Super Sentai that Lightspeed Rescue was adapted from, GoGoV, didn't have one. He was due to cameo in MegaForce, but this tweet said otherwise:

"Guess who was invited to do a cameo on PR Megaforce and then un-invited the next week because of budget restrictions. #majorletdown#titanium"

Next comes Steve Cardenas who portrayed Rocky DeSantos, the 2nd Red Ranger in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Seasons 2 & 3 and the Blue Ranger in Power Rangers Zeo. He was invited to appear  but he said they weren't offering enough of his character. Here was his Facebook post on the situation:

Then there's Karen Ashley who portrayed Aisha Campbell, the 2nd Yellow Ranger in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Seasons 2 &3. Like Steve, she also declined. Here's what she had to say on the subject in this expert from "Uncensored Radio":

Matt Austin who portrayed Bridge, the Green Ranger of Power Rangers SPD was never contacted by Saban to appear despite a previous tweet rumoring that he was, but here's what he had to say about this subject on YouTube:

What do I think? Well, I believe this is unfair, but stuff like this can happen. Keep in mind that the show has been filmed in New Zealand since Ninja Storm, so it may be hard to get people from MMPR-PRWF all the way from the USA to get there because of airfare and what not. Hopefully, Saban Brands will fix this somehow and I will keep you up to date on this as information develops.

Power Rangers MegaForce-Episode 8: Robo Knight: Summary And Thoughts

Sorry for the delay guys, it's been overwhelming for me the past 3 weeks.

Summary: 

With Creepox gone, Admiral Malkor wants some new allies. He discovers two living creatures known as "Toxic Beasts" and asks Vrak to go to earth and convince them to join him. Meanwhile, the Rangers are on a field trip in the forest and have "study buddies". Emma and Noah discover the old power plant and Noah gets a sample of the waste to take it back to the lab. Mr. Burley then screams and everyone rushes in to see.  They notice a big footprint and everyone suspects "Bigfoot", Jake laughing it off. After they leave, one of the Toxic Beasts named "Bigs" was watching them with Vrak watching over him. Later, he meets Bigs and the other beast "Bluefur" and recruits them. Later they introduce themselves telling them that Vrak recruited them. They also mention that they have a hate for humans because they were made of toxic waste and the humans had a chance to stop it from spilling, but they didn't. (?????????) They also release a monster and the Rangers are beaten down completely until a robotic warrior shows up and is named "Robo Knight". He shows them what he can do and defeat the monster. It grows of course and Robo Knight forms into a headder which can combine with a dump truck to create the Lion Mechazord. It defeats the monster. The Rangers try to introduce themselves, but Robo Knight ignores them and walks off. The Rangers go to the Command Cave and ask Gosei why he didn't tell them about him. He created Robo Knight thousands of years ago, however over the turn of the centuries, he has lost most of his memories and doesn't remember that Gosei created him. He needs to re-learn everything independently and the Rangers need to assist him. 

Thoughts: 

Well after a handful of fillers, the story continues and introduces our 6th Ranger. It's quite good showing off this new warrior and seeing what he can do. Plus he has a good back-story and a very strong voice. It was REALLY nice to see Gosei and Tensou again interacting with the Rangers and the "Toxic Beasts" were interesting. There are 2 things that I don't like in this one. First is the whole "environmental" tagline was OVERUSED.....A LOT. It felt like a big PSA ad. Secondly, I didn't like the Toxic Beasts hating humans because they are made of toxic waste and humans didn't do anything about it. WHAT SENSE DOES THAT MAKE?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Still a good debut for Robo Knight and deserves a

Power Rangers After September 11th 2001: What Changed?

In response to the recent events, (Very tragic and sad.) this has always been an interesting thought in my head for about a few years now. How did September 11th 2001 change the way Power Rangers was presented during the final Saban season (at the time) and the entire Disney era? What was changed? What was kept? And most important...why? Here's a little back story.

Saban Entertainment had completed 30 out of 40 episodes of Power Rangers Time Force, the 9th season of the franchise. The company was also in process of being acquired by Disney for $5.3 billion. After the events of September 11th 2001, Saban had to go back and re-watch all 30 episodes and alter footage, lines and run time. These edits are known as "Post 9/11 edits." These ran for a short time on Fox Kids and aired on ABC Family and Toon Disney. Let's look at what had to be altered and changed.

Footage

Power Rangers since its launch has always had monster attacks which involved them wreaking the city and blowing up buildings. This was changed in Time Force however after 9/11. Since this had to be censored after this event, the original footage of the building blowing up or something similar to that, it was replaced with a car blowing up,a close up of an explosion or an alternate scene/different scene. This also happened sometimes when they had to alter dialogue. This was also done to ABC Family's/Toon Disney's runs of Mighty Morphin-Lightspeed Rescue. However, they would simply cut those scenes out or slow down the footage.

Dialogue

As hard as editing the footage may have been, the dialogue probably was harder. This was a Time Force only thing, so Mighty Morphin-Lightspeed Rescue didn't experience this effect from Disney. Anything referencing attacking and destroying was changed to "under alert" and "spotted". Here are a few examples.

In the episode "Dawn Of Destiny" where Ransik invades Bio-Lab to get more cerium, he comes out and tells the mutant this line: "I got the cerium! Level the place!". This was changed to "I have the cerium! Let's get out of here!" (Along with footage change also)

In "Trust And Triumph", Circuit says "Mutant at the trade center!" which was changed to "Mutant at the industrial center!"

Probably the most popular of them all is in "Ransik Lives". Ransik gives a terrorist like speech on TV and tells them to "Surrender or be destroyed!" and "You have one hour to surrender or I'll level the city!" This episode aired 2 days after the 9/11 incident and quickly, Saban inserted the Time Force instrumental to cover up the speech. Later while on the Disney networks, the speech was altered (with footage) to "Surrender or be defeated!" and "You have one hour to surrender!" 

Other dialogue changes were intact, but there are to much to put on here. A link at the end of this post will take you to them.

Runtime

This is going to be a short one because there's not really much to say about it. Why I have a picture of Katie up here is because the episode that she's pictured in really hit it hard. In "Full Exposure" there is a scene where the mutant shoots down a building.......making it look like a plane crashed into it. (Yes this was BEFORE 9/11 and even FOX questioned if this scene should be intact) People freaked out and stuff was flying everywhere. The scene was trimmed down...A LOT. So much in fact, it reduced the episode's length. This episode actually didn't get aired again after its edited version was shown. It was once seen again in 2005. It was also skipped in the UK. 

So, now that 9/11 is over, will Power Rangers follow the same guidelines as Disney did with this amount of "terror" scenes.....well no. Since Saban bought back the franchise in 2010, exploding buildings and such have been intact in Power Rangers Samurai and a few episodes out of the 9 that have been aired so far (at the time of this post) of Power Rangers MegaForce. However, these are also "technically censored" since they imply that the building is empty and no one is inside. However, due to the recent events, these things may be removed again. I personally don't think so, but we will see. It's up to Saban and Nickelodeon to see if they want to do that.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers S1 Episode 60-An Oyster Stew: Summary And Thoughts

Summary:

Zack wants to once again impress his crush Angela by getting her some pearl earnings for her birthday. However, he's broke and can't get anything genuine. Rita then gets the idea to give Zack some "Pearls of Stillness" in which, who ever puts the earnings on freezes everything around them. Zack buys them cheap from a Putty disguised as a strange man. Later, Zack and Angela along with Tommy and Kimberly go to the cafe and eat. After the 2 guys leave to clean up after an incident, Angela begins to put the earrings on. The other 3 Rangers rush in to tell her not to, but its to late. Zack and Tommy go and fight the Oysterizer and Tommy even gives Zack his shield. The Oysterizer gets weakened and somehow, this undoes the spell. Angela dumps Zack, but then he and the other 5 get back to work. The Megazord/Dragonzord defeat him. Angela later then apologizes for being so materialistic. 

Thoughts:

Well I first saw this episode on ABC Family in October 2004 and I gotta say watching it for the second time in my life, it's a very clever episode. It has a good moral about "not buying friendship" and what not and had some unique moments like Zack wearing Tommy's Shield, the Megazord being used for a fight underwater and Bulk and Skull's singing. (Not to mention Zack's). However, there were some "hiccups" in this one. One, how did defeating the Oysterizer break the spell that the pearls caused? Second, why did Zack morph twice? Couldn't have Zordon contacted the other 4 Rangers on their Communicators and tell them that Zack and Tommy needed them at the beach instead of Zack demorphing, going back to the cafe, tell them and morph again? And finally, what was the point about that big pearl in the ocean? This didn't feel good enough to end Season 1, but it would have made sense seeing how in Season 2 they would get a new threat. Mighty Morphin Mutants would have been a better final episode though.

Overall, it's a decent episode and deserves a

Suits From Gokaiger To Be Used As A "Super Mode" For The Second Half Of Power Rangers MegaForce

Well, it seems that the 35th Anniversary Season of Super Sentai, "Gokaiger" will be utilized in the second half of "Power Rangers MegaForce".....as a power-up. Yes, you read that right. As a power-up.

This was stated by Fury Diamond on RangerCrew's Blog:

How can you not love the beautiful Gokaiger suits?  I’m not an active Sentai fan, but I got pure respect for Gokaiger’s success in the anniversary elements.  When I first heard about Goseiger suits in Megaforce, I was disappointed that Saban Brands would either skip the Gokaiger suits or use them two years later.  The Goseiger Suits will remain as the primary suits in Super Megaforce, but we will see the Gokaiger suits as expected.  Power Rangers Super Megaforce will focus on Gokaiger footage to promote Mighty Morphin Power Rangers to Power Rangers Megaforce using the Gokaiger suits and past Rangers.  The season will have cameos, but no confirmation on their usage and who has been invited.  The filming photos have leaked Jason Smith’s possible appearance in the season.  The filming photos showed Black Wild Force Ranger and Lost Galaxy Rangers, which are two of the transformation “powers” that we will see in Super Megaforce.

The Gokaiger Suits will be used as a power up in Power Rangers Super Megaforce.  The teenagers will use the Gosei Morpher to transform into the Megaforce Power Rangers (Gosei Suits).  The Rangers will have the ability to transform to the Gokaiger Suits, which will act as the “Super Mode” (not confirmed name).  This mode will allow the Rangers to transform into the Past Rangers form to match the Gokaiger footage.  The Black Ranger will upgrade to Green Gokai Suit.  They will use appropriate footage (existing and new) to match Jake’s personality.

There is no solid confirmation on whether Gokai Silver will be used, but we will most likely see this suit used as the Sixth Ranger to match the Gokaiger footage. As much as I would love to see an original Silver Ranger, I doubt that they will want to waste the fantastic Gokaiger footage.

If they use the Gokai Silver suit, I hope that they find a way to explain the Gokai Suits usage. They could take the approach where Gokai Silver’s team was defeated and the powers are passed down to the Megaforce Rangers. This would require Gokai Silver to appear in the first episode.

Now I personally want to see how this concept is played out. It puzzled me when Gokaiger was going to be used in MegaForce's second half back at Comic Con 2012. Now I see why. Keep in mind though that this won't happen till next year and things could change.

I would like to see how it turns out, though I will admit I would have liked them to be a team of "Rival Rangers" which would be something new for the franchise, but hey. We can't control that can we? This will also be the 2nd season in which there are 2 sets of Ranger teams. The first was back in MMPR Season 3 with the core 6 Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and the 5 Mighty Morphin Alien Rangers.

Power Rangers MegaForce-Episode 7-Who's Crying Now?: Summary And Thoughts

Summary:

Troy runs into bullies at school that are making fun of him because he's "the new kid." Troy doesn't give in to their teasing and looks them dead in the eye. The main bully, Roy, asks him if he's going to cry. Troy then states "Take a good look. You see any tears?". The bullies just back off from him. Troy then sees them taunting another kid, smaller and heavier named Howie about an insect he has and is holding the container. Troy tells them to back off and show respect. They do so. Creepox in the meantime wants to defeat the Rangers all by himself once and for all. He does so and runs into two bullies who were teasing Howie once again. However, Howie protects them with the same words that Troy used to protect him. The bullies escape and Jake and Gia arrive just in time to save Howie and tell him to retreat. The two are severally weakened by the battle and Creepox escapes. The other three arrive to assist the two. Emma stays behind while Troy and Noah head off to face Creepox. Creepox however is to strong and Noah is injured. Troy remains strong however and faces him. With one quick streak of his Dragon Sword, Creepox in defeated. Vrak summons his Zombats as Creepox grows. The others arrive and morph and form the Megazord. However, Creepox is way stronger then they expected. However, Gosei comes to the rescue and offers them a new card that can combine all their Zords together to create the Ultra Gosei Great Megazord. (Sky Brothers, Land Brothers, Sea Brothers and Ultra Change Zord sold separably) With it they defeat Creepox.....for good. In the end, the bullies are nice to Howie doing what Troy told them about respecting other people. 

Thoughts:

This episode defined great. There was a lot of action, plot and all around good storytelling. For starters, the episode was about bullying. I like that being used as a topic as I was a victim of it. Bullying has become more common in our society today and it's good that a show like this is teaching children how to deal with it instead of just being frightened or starting a fight themselves. Creepox I am surprised was defeated pretty quickly. The reason why is because Saban is skipping Goseiger episodes because of importing Gokaiger elements in the 2nd half. The last time a villian was defeated early into the season was Furio back in Lost Galaxy when Magna Defender came along. The insta-morph was beautifully shot and the cinematography looked great. The Ultra Gosei Great however was also used as another marketing move for Bandai and the "Ultra Change Zord" was never explained (Look up Goseiger Datas to understand that) and Gosei and Tensou ONCE AGAIN are not used. 

Still, despite minor flaws, this episode was amazing. My favorite so far. It deserves a
